Thanks to the kindness of some of Bill's colleagues at WaMu who gave us a pair of Seattle Sonics tickets for Christmas, we went to our first Sonics game last night.
We became Mariners fans during our first summer here. And right after that was the Seahawks Super Bowl season, during which we jumped on the Hawks bandwagon. But we could never quite get excited about the Sonics. But after Diann and Isabelle had their first express bus ride to downtown Seattle, the three of us had dinner at the Westlake Center, rode the monorail to the Seattle Center, and found our seats in Key Arena.
And the Sonics didn't let us down...they were as terrible as we thought they were going to be. Isabelle seemed to enjoy the experience, and Diann just enjoyed getting out of the house for a few hours. But Bill couldn't help thinking that Jerry Sloan would have a heart attack coaching this bunch of guys who never saw a 15-foot jumper they didn't like. Setting a down-screen or posting up in the low block apparently are not in the Sonics playbook. Give us Stockton/Malone/Hornacek and now Williams/Boozer/Okur anyday!!
We tried...but becoming a Sonics fan just isn't going to happen anytime soon! Go Jazz!!
